Quickly lose weight without sagging skin? There you go!

Your skin cannot always keep up with your weight loss pace, so it hangs down and its recovery is not automatically stimulated. Can you counteract this process, or is there nothing left for you to do but accept your skin flaps? We have advice.

radical diets such as the Model Diet have a negative effect on health: Weight fluctuations and the yo-yo effect are pre-programmed. But your skin also suffers from these ordeals. You may lose weight quickly, but you also experience certain physical limits that become visible. Depending on the amount of weight you lose, your skin will be exposed to strong stretching. Although the skin is very elastic and can withstand overstretching, its elasticity is also limited at a certain point. Your skin cannot recover sufficiently after a rapid weight loss. The result: Your connective tissue slackens and excess skin hangs down.

Drinking enough water, exercise and a healthy diet are still the best help against sagging skin.

If you want to do something good for your body and skin and protect them from the damage of fast weight loss, you should change your strategy and focus on slow weight loss to preserve your connective tissue. „A permanent change in diet according to the ten rules of the German Society for Nutrition, coupled with plenty of exercise and sport, is the most effective and healthy way to lose weight in the long term,” confirms Dr. Raghunath of MediDate
a Germany-wide platform for lifestyle and cosmetic surgery. “The advantage of this is that the body slowly and steadily loses weight, the skin has time to regain its own weight without also developing stretch marks.

Targeted strength training can also be supportive: when you train your abdomen, arms and legs, you build up muscle mass and thus help to tighten your skin. It is important that you drink enough water. If your body is supplied with sufficient moisture from the inside, it will also be reflected in the tonicity and elasticity of your skin.

Which cosmetic operations are performed by German women? Is excess skin in the Top 5 an issue? Our video tells you.

  • Dude: Over the years, the skin loses elasticity – losing weight at an advanced age means an increased risk of skin flap formation
  • Genetic disposition: Your genes determine the elasticity of your skin. It varies from person to person
  • Quantity of the reduced weight: If you want to lose a lot of weight, you can develop skin flaps despite a slow weight loss

Dr. Raghunath’s experience: “Sometimes you see patients who have an enormous excess of skin in the upper abdomen, despite only 15 kg of weight fluctuation. On the other hand, you can also lose 35 kg without much flaccidity. It’s just very different.”

If you have already developed larger skin flaps or even a fat apron, you can only minimize or even not influence them to a limited extent through sport, nutrition, and diet (e.g. with a fat apron). In everyday life, underwear can, therefore, help you to keep everything firmly in place. In the long term, however, only surgery will help you. “An Abdominoplasty can remove excess skin from the abdomen and also tighten an enlarged abdominal wall – often after pregnancy,” says Dr. Raghunath. “If there is too much skin only in the lower part of the abdomen, the removal of the lower abdominal crease is an option (mini-abdominoplasty or lower abdominal lift without relocation of the navel). Both procedures visibly tighten the stomach and remove excess skin and Stretch marks which are caused by rapid weight loss. What remains is a fine scar that runs above the pubic border and can be easily concealed under the panties”.

Dr. Martin Raghunath regularly removes unloved fat aprons.

However, you should only undertake such aesthetic procedures if you have stabilized your weight for about half a year. Since the skin will still recede during this period and weight fluctuations can also occur, you should give yourself and your body enough time before surgical intervention.
